What is the definition of faith according to the Bible
Biblical faith is not believing without reasons, it is trusting God based on what He has already shown Himself to be.

1. The Bible gives a direct definition
Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” In plain words, faith is acting with confidence in something real that you cannot yet see with your eyes.
2. Faith rests on God’s character, not on chance
Romans 10:17 says, “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Faith grows by knowing who God is and what He has done, not by trying to convince yourself of something with no foundation.
3. Faith shows itself through action
James 2:17 says, “faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” True faith does not stay only in the mind, it shows up in the decisions you make based on what you believe.
4. Faith does not remove doubt completely
Mark 9:24 records a father telling Jesus, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” Having questions or moments of doubt does not mean faith has disappeared, it is a normal part of the process of trusting.
5. Faith grows over time, it does not appear fully formed overnight
Romans 1:17 talks about going “from faith to faith,” an image of steady growth. No one starts with perfect faith, it strengthens through each real experience of trusting God.
Faith is not turning off your mind, it is deciding to trust someone who has already shown Himself trustworthy, even when you cannot yet see the full outcome.
