1. Jesus himself wept over a loss
John 11:35 is the shortest verse in the Bible and simply says, “Jesus wept.” He did this at the tomb of his friend Lazarus, even knowing he would raise him minutes later. Crying over a loss is not a lack of faith, not even Jesus avoided it.
2. Crying has a place God acknowledges
Matthew 5:4 (KJV) says, “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” The Bible does not ask you to rush through grief or pretend it does not hurt, it promises comfort to those who walk through it.
3. God is near in that specific moment
Psalm 34:18 (KJV) says, “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” The pain of loss does not push God away, according to the Bible it is exactly where He draws nearer.
4. Christian hope does not erase the pain, it reshapes it
1 Thessalonians 4:13 (KJV) says, “I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.” It does not say there will be no sadness, it says that sadness is different when there is hope of reunion. Revelation 21:4 promises a future where God “shall wipe away all tears.”
