How do I find love

Looking for love is one of the most human searches there is, and the Bible has quite a bit to say, both about how to prepare yourself and what to look for in another person.

Looking for love is one of the most human searches there is, and the Bible has quite a bit to say, both about how to prepare yourself and what to look for in another person.

1. Start by understanding how you love first

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 describes what love looks like in action, patient, not envying, not seeking its own. Before looking for someone who loves you that way, it is worth asking whether you love that way yourself.

2. Do not search from lack, search from fullness

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” Looking for a romantic relationship to fill an emptiness usually creates unbalanced relationships, building a solid relationship with God first gives you a more stable foundation.

3. Pay attention to character, not only initial attraction

Proverbs 31:30 says, “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain.” Attraction is real and important, but the other person’s character, how they treat others, how they handle conflict, is what sustains a relationship long term.

4. Be patient with the process

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says “To every thing there is a season.” Not finding love when you expected to does not mean it will never come, or that something is wrong with you.

5. Actively involve God in the search, not only at the end

Proverbs 3:5-6 asks you to trust God “in all thy ways.” Praying specifically about this area of your life, not only asking Him to bless a relationship that is already far along, invites God into the whole process.

Finding love does not only depend on finding the right person, it also depends on becoming the kind of person capable of loving well. Both can grow at the same time.
