How can we help others in their journey of faith
Helping someone grow in their faith does not mean having every answer, it means walking alongside them with patience and honesty.
Helping someone grow in their faith does not mean having every answer, it means walking alongside them with patience and honesty.
1. Share what you have lived, not just what you know
2 Corinthians 1:4 says God comforts us “that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble.” Sharing your own experience usually helps more than giving a theoretical speech.
2. Listen before you advise
James 1:19 says to be “swift to hear, slow to speak.” Often the person just needs to feel heard before they are ready to receive advice.
3. Encourage through example, not only words
Hebrews 10:24-25 talks about stirring “up unto love and to good works,” meeting together with others regularly. A consistent life teaches more than any explanation.
4. Pray for the person in specific ways
Colossians 1:9 shows Paul praying in detail for others, “that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will.” Praying by name for someone’s real situation is a genuine way to walk with them, even if they never know it.
5. Respect their own pace
Everyone grows at their own speed. 1 Corinthians 3:6 says, “I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.” Your role is to plant and walk alongside, not to force results or feel responsible for decisions that are not yours to make.
